How to Turn YouTube Videos Into Reels
A YouTube video can provide source material for Reels when the selected segment works independently and is reframed with care.

Pick a moment that works without the full video
Start by choosing a segment with a single takeaway or story arc. A tutorial answer, a concise explanation, or a useful interview moment can work well when the clip includes enough setup for a viewer who has not seen the original upload.
Do not choose a segment only because it contains a keyword or a dramatic line. Check that the edit preserves the speaker's meaning, and that the clip has a natural opening and ending.
Reframe and caption the excerpt
Prepare the clip in a vertical 9:16 frame and check the crop on a phone-sized preview. Keep the speaker or key action visible throughout; a static crop may not work equally well for every shot.
Captions can make the excerpt easier to follow with sound off, but they need proofreading. Correct transcription mistakes, use readable line breaks, and make sure text does not cover a face or the important part of the scene.
Respect source rights and platform rules
Only repurpose video you own or have permission to use. A public URL does not automatically grant reuse rights. Also check the current terms and technical requirements of both the source platform and the destination platform before downloading or publishing.
